THE CUBS ALL SNUGGLED DOWN IN THEIR BEDS...

...with visions of knives and starting fires in their heads.
Worried yet?
It was an action packed day - we started the afternoon with a hike up Nosebleed Hill to Skunkie Camp where Baloo introduced the pack to some different SAFE fire starting skills, after which the pack broke into groups and built their own fires. The wet conditions definitely made it challenging, but after a couple of tries everyone was successful in getting their fires started!
Once we made sure fires were all out we treked on to Broken Lantern Camp after which we doubled back.
WE LOST A SCOUT!!! As we were walking Sarah (Bagheeras Daughter) trailed off into the woods on her own (don't worry, it was planned), once we discovered she was missing we stopped and discussed a plan of action to locate her. We talked to the pack about how we would work together to find her and decided we would double back and do a sweep until we located her. As luck would have it we found her safe and sound! We will be working on this more in the future as the Cubs were too sidetracked as to whether or not this event was planned to really give it their all. It was explained to them that the importance should never be placed on if this was planned, but rather on the safe return of their friend.
We made our way back to camp, but not before a stop at the Field of Honor to pay respects to all those Scouters who were here before us.
Once back at camp the Cubs learned some safe knife handling skills with Scouter Larry while they waited for supper. This is something we will be covering again after breakfast in the morning as it is paramount that our Cubs fully understand proper handling before they earn their knife license.
After supper the Pack enjoyed a Campfire and an opportunity to see the moon up close through a telescope. We ended the night with a Movie and popcorn - i know what you're thinking... A Movie?!?! With the evening being so long we figured it would be a good way to wind down after the day we had... and we were right!
The Cubs are all nestled in their bunks with minimal signs of distress from our newest members. Before we know it morning will be here and we will be off on another adventure before heading home.
Until tomorrow, good hunting,
~Akela
