Well, now that I have had the chance to reflect on the weekends happenings i figure i will share events with tbose parents who may have been met with a 'nothing' or 'I dunno' when asked what they did this weekend.  20 Cubs, 3 whitetail beavers along with 6 Cubs from Hampton all came together to enjoy a weekend of fun learning.

While the weather wasn't 100% it could have been much worse!

To say the pack was well behaved this weekend would be an understatement. They listened well, there was little to no complaining, and they absorbed their newly learned skills like a sponge.

Friday was a night to relax.  Once everyone was settled with their beds made up we determined that it was too cold and damp for a campfire so we went to Plan B and watched a movie.  The Pack settled in for the night without a problem.

Saturday morning after a warm nutritious breakfast of oatmeal and fruit we were joined by our White tail beavers.  After breakfast we went over plans for the day which included packing our packs for the day.  Once everyone was ready, we headed out.

After crossing the suspension bridge our first stop was Camp Skunkie where we stopped for a snack.  Baloo went over fire skills and talked about preparing, lighting, and maintaining a campfire that would be sufficient to cook lunch.  Then we headed out on the trail - along the way the Cubs picked up tinder for their fires.  We made our way to Broken Lantern where the Cubs paired up and got to work building their fires.  After a little trial and error everyone was able to get their fires going  and cook their lunch.

After lunch we made sure fires were out and everything was cleaned up before heading back out on the trail and made our way back to camp.

Once back at camp the pack took a much needed break and had some time to themselves.  Some played outside, others chose to read in their bunks.

When suppertime rolled around we found ourselves having to modify our original plan.  With the cold wind blowing we decided to forego the Cubs building fires to cook supper, instead we built a large fire on which the pack cooked their tinfoil dinners.

After dinner we let the pack do their own thing for a while before gathering at the already burning fire to roast marshmallows and hot dogs.  We had planned a formal campfire, but again the cold wind hampered those plans.

Suffice it to say Saturday ended with Cubs and Scouters heading to sleep quickly given the busy day we had.

In all the weekend was an excuse - although our Canadian Flag DID get stuck up the flag pole (thanks Mother Nature!).  Everyone walked away with a few more skills to work with at future camps, and I would have to say that everyone had a good time.

Until Next Time, Good Hunting -
